History of the Life and Institute of St. Ignatius de Loyola, Founder of the Society of Jesus
Daniello Bartoli 1608-1685
This work is only the first part of a comprehensive history of the Company of Jesus written by Bartoli. It covers the life of Saint Ignatius of Loyola and the Jesuit Institutes and Constitution. Subsequent parts of the larger work cover the history of the Jesuits in Asia and Europe. The translator into English of Bartoli’s work is not identified on the title page, but a statement reads, “Translated by the author of ‘Life in Mexico.’” That author probably is Madame Calderon de la Barca. The work is in 2 volumes that are 7.5 inches in height.
